things since august

It has been a while since I wrote! Paranorman came out, and will be out on DVD soon (November 27th in fact). Anya’s Ghost won a Harvey Award for Best Original Graphic Publication for Younger Readers. I did an illustrated book review for the New York Times. I drew a few more dresses. I cut down a giant tree in my backyard and made a bunch of jam. It’s raining and cold and Portland’s all hunkered down for the winter. I’m super busy at Laika so I don’t know how much will be showing up on this blog, but I’ll try to pop in and post some drawings as they happen. Stay warm and dry folks!

So happy it won the Harvey. I’ve wanted to read it for a while, and because it received that award, I now get to for my grad school Adolescent Lit class! SO excited!

I recently bought your book, Anya’s Ghost, and really enjoyed it! I was seriously sweating a bit near the end. The character faults (although I wanted her to snap out of it!) were relatable to me; I could understand how she felt and why she acted that way. I also really enjoyed the variety of page layouts, beautiful art.
    Congrats on the Harvey!

Wow, congratulations! (Even though it’s really late!) I remember reading Anya’s Ghost over someone’s shoulder in my class, and I loved the bits I got so much that I just HAD to buy the book. It was absolutely amazing, and I just can’t get over how well-written it was! This book would be PERFECT for a movie, I can feel it. Thank you for writing it!
